Gary BurkeGroup Executive Chairman and CEO

Gary is a serial insurance entrepreneur specialising in the Fine Art and Private Client Markets who has successfully founded and grown both Home and Legacy Insurance Services and iPrism Underwriting Agency. In 2016 Gary established the Eaton Gate group of companies that includes specialist MGAs Artsure, Eaton Gate Commercial and Broker Express.

Jonathan MatthewsChief Operating Officer

Jonathan joined the Eaton Gate group having previously been COO at Pioneer Underwriters. He qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC and has held senior positions at Beazley Group, Liberty Syndicates and Ryan Speciality Group. Jonathan is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Alastair Speare-ColeIndependent Non-Executive Director

Alastair joined Eaton Gate in October 2017 to take up the position of Independent Non-Executive Director. He has more than 30 years of experience in reinsurance across all lines of business. Alastair was Chief Underwriting Officer for Qatar Reinsurance Company Limited and prior to that he served as a Co-Chief Executive Officer of JLT Towers Re Limited. Initially, he started his career as a graduate trainee at Jardine Matheson after graduating from University of Oxford in Geology and Geophysics. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Chartered Insurance Professional and a Fellow of the Geological Society in the UK.

Matt GiffordHead of Underwriting

Matt has 28 years’ experience in the insurance industry with the formative years of his career being spent underwriting Commercial Lines on behalf of a number of composite insurers. Over the last 10 years however, he has undertaken a number of senior underwriting and operational roles within the MGA environment, both as a coverholder and as a delegating Insurer, and across a diverse range of product lines.

Nate FilerHead of Operations

Nate has worked with Gary Burke’s previous two companies, iPrism and Home & Legacy. He has held operational and management information roles within each and was a Director at iPrism. Prior to this, Nate held management positions at Wesleyan Financial Services.

Ben GilmanGroup Actuary

Ben has 20 years’ actuarial experience across a range of commercial, retail and specialty insurance and reinsurance products in company, broker and consultancy environments. Ben is experienced with reserving, pricing, capital, exposure management, and risk, having held a variety of roles including Chief Actuary in various Lloyd’s businesses, Senior Manager in consultancies and Head of Analytics at a major broker. He provides analytical input to the business and to insurer partners and brokers to assess performance and drive improvements to rating, underwriting and portfolio composition.

Gareth HughesHead of Trading

Gareth is a driven and connected leader of trading teams having 30 years of experience in the industry. Having worked for Aviva and then AXA for most of his career he has a deep understanding of the B2B Commercial and Personal Insurance markets, and the importance of developing great relationships with insurance brokers. He knows how to lead/motivate sales and underwriting teams to maximise trading opportunities. Gareth has led and contributed to several change management programs throughout his career and brings experience of how to build effective trading teams.

Iain TaylorHead of Claims

Iain has worked in the claims arena for over 30 years dealing with both Commercial and Personal Lines for a number of large insurance and reinsurance companies. This includes Property, Liability, Professional Indemnity, Marine and Aviation claims in both the Company and Lloyds markets and has been involved in high profile losses such as Grenfell Tower, PIP breast implants litigation, Costa Concordia, World Trade Centre and Australian Bushfires. He joined Eaton Gate from XL Catlin where he was Head of Technical Claims and Operations, Reinsurance.

Richard OxborrowHead of IT

Richard graduated in Electronic Engineering and found his way into software development early in his career. He has over 30 years’ experience working with computer networks and developing applications to run on them. He has worked in the insurance sector throughout – including the design, development and operation of software platforms for both Home & Legacy and iPrism.

Graham Rivers-MooreHead of Legal & Compliance

Graham has over 20 years’ experience of legal, corporate governance and regulatory affairs within global organisations. Prior to joining Eaton Gate, he was Head of Group Legal for Covéa Insurance following its acquisition of Sterling Insurance which he joined in 2012 as Head of Legal and Compliance. Graham has worked in senior leadership roles with overall responsibility for setting the strategy, staffing and delivery of legal, compliance and company secretarial support. He has successfully managed and overseen legal and compliance teams across international firms operating in regulated industries, including Aegon, Genworth Financial, GE Insurance and Equitas. Graham is a dual qualified lawyer having practised initially in South Africa at leading firm, Webber Wentzel Bowens.

Tyron MosesFinance Director

Tyron has over 12 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Having started his career in audit from 2004 to 2008. He has held senior finance roles at Island Heritage Insurance in the Cayman Islands from 2008 to 2015 and prior to departing was the senior vice president of finance and more recently was working in the technical and US GAAP financial reporting team at Navigators Insurance in the UK before joining Eaton Gate. He holds a honours degree in accounting and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
